Today, Daniela Perez Duro, full-time MBA student from Spain, talks about her experience:
¡Hola! 大家好! I’m Daniela, I come from Spain although I have been living in China for the last six years before joining HHL. I majored in English Philology during my university studies, but I have been working in the sporting goods industry for most of my professional life.
Motivation for an MBA
I had planned to study an MBA for the last few years while I worked in China holding managerial responsibilities. Having learned many of the skills the hard way, I felt that studying an MBA would help me to fill in some gaps in specific disciplines such as in marketing or finance and accounting, and to get a broader perspective of the business management field in general.
Why MBA at HHL?
First, I considered studying my MBA outside of Europe, particularly in the US or Canada. I like new experiences and it was not in my plans to “come back home” this soon. But after researching some European universities, I discovered HHL. What struck me most was the personalized service and support you receive from the very first contact. That was the main reason I chose HHL.
Challenges faced at HHL
Even though the program has a practical focus, studies can be quite demanding. In some weeks, due to group meetings, lectures and assignments, time for personal study can be very limited. This is something to be aware of before starting, especially for people like me, who come from other academic disciplines and then require some more time to build up new knowledge.
What would you do if there is only one month of stay in Leipzig left?
I would try to get some more time for myself to explore the city and embrace what Leipzig has to offer outside of the academic world. I would also invite my old friends from the University to come over, and I would take them to have a drink at the Auerbachs Keller.
Favorite experience at HHL
I have had two favorite experiences in Leipzig, and both were related to music. One was a show of the British musician Bonobo at Haus Auensee, and the other one was seeing Don Carlo at Oper Leipzig. It is very refreshing to come back to a place where music is so appreciated.
