For a Better Working Life – a Xing Lecture

Professional social network service XING invited HHL students to a lecture evening and an exclusive get-together with CPO Timm Richter

On November 2, 2017, HHL students had the opportunity to visit a presentation of XING and to get an insight into the everyday life of one of the most successful digital companies in Germany. Timm Richter, CPO of XING, talked about the value added that his company offers young professionals. Richter showed how they build and run a leading business networking platform in German-speaking countries through their culture. In doing so, he stressed the company’s open and innovative corporate philosophy, which not only reflects in the slogan “For a better working life” but also in CEO Thomas Vollmoeller as a role model. In 2016, he decided to take a sabbatical and is, therefore, the epitome of a good work-life balance, which is supported by XING itself.

Afterwards, Human resources representatives explained the career opportunities at XING: Besides the XING FAST TRACK Leadership Program, where two to four candidates are hand-picked for the XING general management and product management divisions, they also offer a summer school. This three months long program is fully packed with intensive opportunities to learn and students work in small groups on hands-on projects. Finally, the students learned more about the offered internships and working student opportunities. At the end of this first event’s part, they had the chance to get into contact with XING’s CPO and to ask him questions about the career options as well as his recently published book of modern leadership.

After the presentation, XING invited a select group of students to a special cooking evening at “Kochen und Kunst” in Leipzig. To save a spot in that more informal event, interested people had to hand in their CV beforehand. The chosen participants cooked a multi-course menu together with company representatives and did a cocktail crash course. “The casual setting was perfect for the students to come together in conversation with XING’s employees within a relaxed atmosphere. Both, the students and the hosts enjoyed the evening and took the opportunity for an intense exchange” says Philipp Apke, manager of the Career Development, who co-organized the event within the leadership competency development program “New Leipzig Talents” in cooperation with XING.
