On Sunday, October 2, 2016, EADA and HHL celebrated the intake of the fifth batch of the Global Executive MBA, a program for experienced managers.
The 15 new participants represent the most diverse class ever, coming from countries such as Jamaica, India or Kazakhstan. For the first time, EADA and HHL are also welcoming students from Iran, Afghanistan or Saudi-Arabia on their campus.
EADA and HHL start 5th Global Executive MBA intake with most diverse class ever
The global perspective of the program does not only result from the program design and diverse nationalities, it much more lies within every individual. Having been born and raised in different countries, working abroad, being multilingual is to some extent part of every participant’s profile. So while being different, participants discover a lot of similarities at the same time.
“I met a lot of great people,” says Henning Nelles, a German participant. He chose the program in order to work with people from different nations and to have time for self-reflection and observation which perfectly aligns with the leadership focus of the program.
During the first week of the program, the development of leadership competencies started right away with the Neuro Training Lab (NTL) and the first course of the Leadership module. The NTL supports managers in adopting and refining thoughts, habits, and emotions, which provide for the basis of their leadership. Under the direction of Steven Poelmans, Professor of People Management and Director of the Coaching Competency Center at EADA, the international managers learn, through practical exercises accompanied by video recordings and brain scans, to be honest with themselves. They receive a personal coach providing individual support, based on their individual ‘lab report’, by the time they graduate from the GEMBA program.
Challenging outdoor activities allowed for an experiential learning approach and are meant to form the group into a cohesive team. The secluded setting of the training center in Collbató/Spain offers ideal conditions for the activities and to make the group come together to get to know each other closely.
The Global Executive MBA Program of HHL and EADA
The Global Executive MBA Program of German HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management and Spanish Escuela de Alta Dirección y Administración (EADA) focuses on the development of leadership skills and teaches about intercultural competence and the economic peculiarities of management in Southern and Northern Europe as well as Brazil, China and India. The program, which uses English as the classroom language, is designed especially for executives who have obtained several years of professional experience but have not studied business administration. The structure of the 21-month Global Executive MBA Program has been adapted to the professional and personal needs of international managers. For the Executive MBA double degree from HHL and EADA, participants must successfully complete eight six-day residential weeks on various management disciplines over the course of 21 months and write a Master thesis. The program consists of six compulsory modules of which three must be completed in Germany and three in Spain. Another two of three electives have to be completed at renowned business schools in Brazil, China or India. In addition to teaching core competencies in economics, an executive coaching session as well as the development of key qualifications such as communication, negotiation, conflict and diversity management as well as intercultural management abilities, which are all essential for international leadership positions, is a vital part of the program. Admission requirements for the program are a first-level academic degree, a minimum of five years professional experience of which at least three years is in a leadership position, and an excellent command of English.
